Het werkt niet!
Veel menu onderdelen en andere functies zijn uitgeschakeld tijdens opnemen, afspelen of pauzes. Om ze aan te zetten druk je op de gele Stop knop 
. Om afspelen te stoppen en de cursor in te stellen op de plaats waar je bent gestopt, zodat afspelen vandaar verder gaat, gebruik daarvoor de sneltoets SHIFT + A.
Voor alle effecten, de meeste onderdelen van het Menu Bewerken en Knippen, Plakken, Bijwerken (trim) en Dempen in de Werkbalk Bewerken moet je het geluidsfragment kiezen dat je wilt veranderen.
- Om een specifiek geluidsfragment te selecteren, klik en sleep nadat je de Selectiebalk hebt geactiveerd, zodat het geselecteerde spoor is grmarkeerd.
- Om alle audio in het project te selecteren, kies .
Je kunt deze instelling veranderen in de Voorkeuren: Projecten door het vinkje weg te halen voor: Altijd alle audio selecteren naar het project (veiligst). Menu onderdelen waarvoor geselecteerd moet worden en je doet dat niet, zijn dan onbruikbaar gemaakt.
Waarom kan ik niet minder dan één seconde selecteren of klikken tussen hele seconden?
Zet Uitlijnen (Snap To) uit in de Selectiebalk. Als Uitlijnen 'aan' staat moet de selectie in een exacte lengtemaat zijn gemaakt of moet de cursor op het juiste tijdstip zijn geplaatst, overeenkomstig het huidige Selectie Format.
Waarom hoor ik klikken als ik geluid knip of plak, of bij het begin of einde van een spoor?
Klikken die je hoort waar geluid is verwijderd of geplakt, kunnen zijn veroorzaakt door DC offset, de golfvorm ligt niet op de nullijn, of door een verkeerde selectie van de bewerkingsplekken.
DC offset kan ook een klik veroorzaken bij het begin of einde van een spoor, zelfs als je het geluid niet bewerkt voordat je het exporteert. Maak je als routine eigen om Effecten > Normaliseren te gebruiken met "Verwijder alle DC offset" aangevinkt, zodra geluid wordt opgenomen of geïmporteerd. Je kunt Importeren / Exporteren Voorkeuren instellen op automatisch normaliseren voor alle sporen in het project als er audiobestanden worden geïmporteerd.
Als audio wordt verwijderd of geplakt kan via worden gebruikt om de plaats va de cursor of de grenzen van de selectie te verplaatsen naar een veilige plek waar de geluids monsters stil zijn. Dit werkt heel effectief in monosporen.
In stereosporen kunnen nulpunten in het linker en rechter kanaal op een andere plaats liggen, waardoor Nulpunten zoeken toch nog een klik in één van de kanalen kan achterlaten. Een stereospoor splitsen in een linker- en rechterkanaal en dan nulpunten proberen te vinden zal niet werken, omdat de knip/plak op dezelfde plaats in ieder kanaal moet gebeuren in verband met de synchronisatie.
De oplossing is de bewerkingspunten in stereosporen goed te kiezen. Bijvoorbeeld, zoom in en probeer dan de cursor te plaatsen op een plek zonder geluid of aan het begin van een harde beat (waardoor de klik wordt verborgen).
Als geen van deze oplossingen werken, kun je een klik wegwerken door met Repareren effect, of de selectie te verplaatsen naar een nieuw spoor en dan de verbinding te dempen, zodat je niets meer hoort.

Hoe selecteer ik een geluidsfragment in een spoor?

- Hoe kan ik geluid selecteren in een spoor met behulp van de muis?
- Zorg ervoor dat Selecteren is gekozen
in de Tools-werkbalk of druk op F1 op je toetsenbord. Links-klik om de cursor in de golfvorm van het spoor te plaatsen, houdt de linkermuis ingedrukt en sleep de muis in een richting en laat dan de knop los. Zoom in als je van links tot rechts meer details wil zien.
- Zorg ervoor dat Selecteren is gekozen
- Hoe kan ik een bestaande selectie met de muis vergroten of verkleinen?
- Beweeg de cursor over de selectie. Als de cursor verandert in een wijzende vinger, houdt dan de linkermuis ingedrukt en sleep in één of andere richting. Laat de muis los als de cursor op de juiste plaats staat.
- Vaak gaat het sneller door SHIFT ingedrukt te houden, dan de muis links te klikken en de knop vast te houden op de plaats waarheen je de selectie wilt verplaatsen. Sleep dan tot op de juiste plek en laat de knop los. Als je een selectie wilt inkorten druk SHIFT in en klik in de selectie links van het midden om de linkergrens te verplaatsen of klik rechts van het centrum voor de rechtergrens.
- Hoe kan ik een fragment selecteren en veranderen met het toetsenbord?
- Indien nodig gebruik de pijl Omhoog of Omlaag om het spoor aan te wijzen, druk dan op ENTER om het te selecteren.
- Druk J om naar het begin van het spoor te gaan en dan SHIFT + . om 15 seconden naar rechts te kunnen zoeken (verplaats daarvoor de cursor) of . voor 1 seconde naar rechts. Of gebruik K om naar het einde van het spoor te gaan en gebruik de komma als sneltoets om een tijdsspanne naar links te zoeken. De lengte van de zoekgebieden kunnen worden veranderd in Voorkeuren Afspelen. When not playing the track, LEFT or RIGHT nudge the cursor in that direction by one screen pixel.
- When the cursor is in the correct position, use SHIFT + RIGHT to expand the selection rightwards or SHIFT + LEFT to expand leftwards. CTRL + SHIFT + LEFT contracts the selection from the right and CTRL + SHIFT + RIGHT contracts from the left.
Alternatively, use Selection Toolbar to place the selection accurately without the need to zoom in.
- Is there a quick way to select from the cursor to start or end?
- Select from cursor to track start: Choose or use the SHIFT + J shortcut.
- Select from cursor to track end: Choose or use the SHIFT + K shortcut.
- Select from cursor to project start: Hold the SHIFT key and click on the
Skip to Start button. Alternatively, use the SHIFT + HOME shortcut. This may be useful if one more of your tracks do not start at time zero. - Select from cursor to project end: Hold the SHIFT key and click on the
Skip to End button. Alternatively, use the SHIFT + END shortcut. This may be useful if your tracks are of unequal length.

A selection is always shown on the Timeline, but the selection only exists in a track when that track is selected. For example, you may want to extend the selected region up or down into more than one track, which lets you edit the selection in all those tracks at the same time. To make that selection display in other tracks, you have to change which tracks are selected.
- Gale 06Oct12: Thanks, Gianni. I have tried to clarify. On several attempts at this, I think using the word "copy" rather than "extend" was the problem. Does it help?
- To extend the selected region up or down into other tracks: Hover over either selection edge. When the mouse pointer changes to a pointing finger, hold down the left mouse button then drag directly up or down into an adjacent track.
If you also want to extend or contract the selection to left or right, you can drag left or right before releasing the button.
If you don't want to change the selection length, there is no need to drag. Hold SHIFT while clicking on the Track Control Panel to left of the waveform to include that track in the selection, thereby extending the selection into it.
- Keyboard users can include tracks in the selection by using UP or DOWN to change the track that has the yellow focus border, followed by ENTER to select that track. Hold SHIFT while pressing UP or DOWN to extend the selection up or down adjacent tracks.
- To move the selected region into other tracks: Extend the selection as above into all the tracks which you want to contain the selection. Then hold SHIFT and click on the Track Control Panel of the track or tracks from which you were moving the selection, so as to deselect those tracks.
- Keyboard users can press UP or DOWN to move the focus to the track from which the selection is to be removed, then press ENTER.

Follow these steps to splice two files together:
- Import both files into Audacity
- Select the second one by clicking above the Mute/Solo buttons on its Track Control Panel
- Choose

- Place the cursor at the end of the first track by clicking in it then pressing K

You can press the green "Play" button to hear the result, and use the command to save it as an audio file.
How do I mix two tracks together?
To mix two files, import both of them into Audacity. They will appear in separate tracks.
When you press the Play button, you'll hear both tracks play together. Because this adds the sounds together, the end result may become too loud and distorted. To fix this, turn down the -...+ gain sliders on each track until you see no clipping light on the Meter Toolbar. Use the L...R pan sliders to adjust the spatial position of each track in the mix. You can also use to display the controls for each track together in a separate window.
When you use , the tracks will be automatically mixed to an audio file for use in other applications. If you want to mix tracks together explicitly before export, so that they are replaced with a single mixed track, select the tracks, then .
Can I remove the vocals from a recording to make a Karaoke track?
This is only possible for certain stereo tracks. When the vocals are exactly the same on both stereo channels, you can remove them by “subtracting” one channel from the other. This works for recordings where the vocal track is mixed exactly in the center and stereo reverberation has not been added. See this tutorial: Vocal Removal and Isolation.

Why do I see a lot of vertical red lines in the track I just recorded?
This happens when you have an oversaturated recording, where clipping has occurred, that is, the signal has exceeded the maximum allowed level. The vertical red lines show where clipping has happened. The clipping indicators can be turned on and off (Audacity's default setting is "off") by selecting .

Can Audacity preview or apply effects live, in real time?
Audacity cannot yet apply effects in real time while you are previewing or recording. This is one of the most commonly asked for Feature Requests, but it requires substantial changes to Audacity to implement it. Advanced users can apply effects to recordings in real time by applying the effects in a VST host and routing the effect output to be recorded by Audacity. See this Forum topic and ask on the Forum if you need any help.
