Aprire un file audio:
Puoi trascinare il file nella finestra del progetto corrente, oppure scegliere .
Si possono aprire file audio nella finestra di un nuovo progetto con .
Quando Audacity viene rilasciato, i principali formati che può aprire sono AIFF, AU, FLAC, MP2, MP3, OGG Vorbis e WAV. Su Mac OS X, Audacity (al rilascio) può anche importare formati Apple come M4A (AAC) e MOV.
Per importare la maggior parte di altri formati (compresa l'estrazione dell'audio da file video), si può installare la libreria opzionale FFmpeg, sempre che il file da importare non sia protetto da DRM ("Digital Rights Management", gestione digitale dei diritti di autore). To import a CD:
Extract it to WAV or AIFF using iTunes, Windows Media Player or similar. See importing CDs.
Playing audio:
- Press the Play button
to start playback. - Press the Pause button
once to pause playback, and again to resume. - To stop, press the Stop button
.

You must press Stop if you want to edit the track, for example to cut some audio out of it or run an effect. |
- SPACE can be used to either play or stop.
- After stopping, playback resumes from its last starting point.
- Alternatively, use SHIFT + A to stop playback and set the cursor there. Playback will resume from the stop point on pressing Play.
- To change the starting point to anywhere you like, click in the track at your desired starting point, then use SPACE to play from there.
- The Skip to Start
and Skip to End 
buttons can be used to skip to the start or end of the track respectively.
