Quality Preferences

Quality

  • Sampling: This panel sets the default sample rate and bit depth for new projects. It does not affect any existing project (to change the sample rate of an existing project click on the 'project rate' which is the first item in the Selection Bar). The bit depth affects imported material, if it's copied, as well as newly recorded material. 32-bit float resolution gives higher quality than 16 bit resolution but takes twice the storage space on disk.
  • Conversion: When converting between different sample rates there are different trade-offs that can be made between speed and accuracy. The real-time options are used when converting for sound that is actually being played. The high-quality options are used for sound that is being converted for storage on disk. In the drop downs options near the top of the drop down are faster and less accurate, options near the bottom slower and more accurate.
