Tutorial for CD remixing
This is a link to a draft tutorial for remixing a commercial CD: User:PeterSampson/Tutorial: Re-mixing a CD - Mock Up Version-1
This tutorial was originally written by Audacity user Chuck Moore ( Cfmoore1 ) who wanted to remix some Beatles 2009 Remastered CDs, the early ones which were originally mono but which the studio re-released in 2009 in a pseudo-stereo mix. The studio mix is indeed somewhat odd as it places the instruments on one side of the sound stage and the voices on the other. Sounds ok-ish on speakers if you don't listen closely - but sounds distictly odd on headphones. Chuck undertook for his debut project with Audacity a remix of Please Please Me and has recently finished With The Beatles. His objective was to create a more natural sound stage by taking sound clips and remixing (ambitious for a starter project). I gave him some help with this via the forum and through some PMs. I asked him if he would be good enough to write up his process as a tutorial; this is his draft (which I will Wiki-ise with Wiki markup formatting) - once that is done I will be seeking feedback from the manual "list". He says "I do not mind people putting their knives to what I wrote. The procedure is right but if the wording does not convey to the reader what I did then it needs to be changed."
Audacity Projects
This is a link to a mockup of a revised page on "Audacity Projects" : User:PeterSampson/Audacity Projects Mock Up Version-1
- To merge the content of the two previous pages "Audacity Projects" and "Audacity Project Format" - note that there is now only one page linked to from the manual's front page.
- Peter 13Feb11: I think I've achieved at least the first draft of this sub-objective today.
- As we will be maintaining the "Faster" setting for Import Preferences I wanted to expand this page to advise on the two settings, pointing out that with the default setting the data is not actually imported into the project but rather is referenced outside of it.
- Peter 14Feb11: thanks Bill for your feedback and edit to Version-1. Following Ed's feeback by email I am creating a Version-2 based on V-1 + Bill's changes and incorporating the f/b from Ed. See: User:PeterSampson/Audacity Projects Mock Up Version-2
- Peter 17Feb11: implemented this V2 as the new consolidated page on Audacity Projects.
- Peter 24Feb11:Creating a mock-up User:PeterSampson/Audacity Projects Mock Up Version-3 of an extended version of the page with:
- information on Faster versus Safer on Import settings
- how to move an Audacity Project
- Peter 27Feb11: updated mock-up of the extended version of the Audacity Projects page with:
- Reworked "AUP fies and Project files following Bill's editormote
- Style changes requested by Gale: too many "you"s and too many "note thats"s
- Comments on link style consistency as raised by Gale and Ed
- Reworked section on "how to move an Audacity Project" including invoking link to Wiki "Sending work to others" - thanks for that steer Gale, I had totally forgotten that page existed :-(
- Peter 28Feb11: further updated the mock-up with:
- Edits from Ed's feedback in editor notes of yesterday. Where these have been incorporated I deleted the editor note.
- Change suggested by Gale & responses to Gale in editor notes
- This version having been through a couple of intense editorial reviews and subsequent changes is probably ready to be placed in the main manual as the revised "Audacity Projects" page.
- Peter 2Mar11: Today I implemented the V3 mockup as the new revised "Audacity Projects page.
- Peter 16Mar11:Creating a fresh mock-up User:PeterSampson/Audacity Projects Mock Up Version-4 to incorporate Bill's edits that were done on my V3 after it had been implemented as the new revised "Audacity Projects" page - and so did not get into the released version.
- Peter 16Mar11: Implemented this V4 as the new "Audacity Projects" page
Manual Front Page - TOC
This is a link to mock-up Version-10 of the proposed new Table of Contents for the Front Page of the manual: User:PeterSampson/Front Page Mock Up Version-10
The objective of this change was to give greater prominence and visibility to the Tutorials section of the manual. In order to achieve this we created links to the main tutorials in the TOC. Many thanks to Gale Andrews for his invaluable help in developing this proposal.
Gale implemented this V10 as an interim change on 23Jan2011. We still plan further work on the Front Page. Some discussion may be viewed on the V10 mock-up page linked to above. And in this forum thread: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=52190
Peter 26Jan11: I corrected the div id for the "Using Audacity" section. Following our recent TOC update the "Using Audacity" link in the navigation bar was not redirecting properly. My bad: when I created the expanded "Using Audacity" block, I "borrowed" the formatting/layout from Referece section - including its div id. :-(
