This Wiki article has always seemed to me to be a clearer, simpler and less intimidating exposition than the one we have in the manual - it's always the one I point people to from the forum.  It is 1.2 based (e.g. see the diagram with the labels) so would need some simple modification for 1.3/2.0.
 
Remember the recent discussion about the USB TT pages - about not having duplicate entries for similar functions in the manual and the tutorial - this should apply to the splitting tutorial.  It does not make any kind of sense to maintain two parallel versions of the same thing surely.
 
We should decide which should be the dominant one (at this time) and provide a very cut-down page with a pointer to the full tutorial from the other.

*CDDA Frames:  Bill you commented to Gale in earlier dialog that you thought that maybe the use of splitting to CDDA frames was maybe a bit advanced and possibly pedantic.  Personally I have never used this - I just have h-m-s-samples as my working display and have snap-to turned off.  On all the CD's I have made and songs loaded into iTunes I have never heard a single boundary click.  So to simplify the tutorial I would cetainly leave the CDDA boundary stuff out.

*Yup Bill, that looks a lot better - For myslef, I always use the point labels as I too find them much easier to manage. I never use the silence finder for inter-track gap identification - it it always find too many false silences for me and thus is more trouble that it is worth.  I would recommend spinning it off as a sub-tutorial of this tutorial and refer to it as an option. - but certainly not the only way of doing it.
**What I tend to do these days when I'm recording an album is to place a label or marker at the approximate postion while I am recording and then refine it later.
**When I used to use 1.2, I just kept a crib sheet on a piece of paper and noted the times (or in many cases of course the LP came with its track time listed).  
**As you get more experienced even simple visual analysis of the recording using zooms can usually identify the track gaps.  Personally I can easily spot the track gaps visually in the examples you at the zoom level they are at.
